My Lifetime as Ferdinand in France

Part of My Lifetimes with the Christ series by carolan nathan

The fields were covered by a glaze of ice that was quickly churned under by the roiling feet of horses as they galloped towards the chateau that appeared out of the early morning mist.  First in line was a dashing gallant, his long chestnut curls streaming behind him, his face was set in a mischievous grin as he dwelled upon who was waiting for him in the warmth of the bedroom high up in the castle’s walls.   A bright light appeared at one of the windows and Ferdinand knew it was his ladylove awaiting his arrival, shining a candle to show him the way.

The other riders were amused at their leader’s obvious delight and spurred their charges on with even greater abandon for they too were looking forward to the food and drink that would be set out on the large plank table in the castle’s great hall.

Then the sound of crashing trees burst upon their ears and to their dismay, they saw ahead of them a strange assortment of men sawing and pushing the mighty oaks into their path.   The gallants tried to pull up in time to avoid the large branches falling on them and their chargers but it was too late.   One by one they fell and were broken to pieces.  ‘Revenge, revenge’ was the cry from the men sawing away madly.    ‘You took our lady’s honour and now all must pay for the sake of one!’

Ferdinand knew that he was responsible for the painful death of so many of his friends and in the moment of his passing, he asked for forgiveness in the name of the Christ for this.  In his inner vision, he became one with a great Light and then it was over.
